Poll Finds Most Latino Men Staying Loyal to Democratic Candidates in 2024 • Ohio Capital Journal

WASHINGTON — Despite more Latino men turning more Republican, the majority continued to vote Democratic in 2024, a new poll released Tuesday found.

The findings from 2024 poll of the American electorate it came a week after the historic presidential race in which Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris to win a second term in the White House. Both heavily targeted Latino voters throughout their campaigns.

“The national exit polls are wrong about Latinos in general and Latino men in particular,” said Matt Barreto, co-founder of Barreto-Segura Partners Research, during a Tuesday press conference on the poll results. .

Among voters in the poll, 56 percent of Latino men said they voted for Harris, compared to 43 percent who chose Trump.

About two-thirds of Latino voters voted for Harris, while about one-third chose Trump.

Some exit polls, on the other hand, he pointed out the movement of Latino voters to Trump.

Data scientists and survey experts from Barreto-Segura Partners Research, the African American Research Collaborative and Harvard University conducted the survey, which was sponsored by several national organizations.

Battleground states

Between October 18 and November 4, the poll surveyed more than 9,000 Latino, black, Native American, Asian American and white voters in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The survey also provided additional data for California, Florida and Texas, given the large share of minority voters in those three states.

“We are extremely confident that our sample is fair, that it is an accurate portrait of Latino men and women, and that it is balanced to match their demographics, and that it was available in Spanish at every survey stop.” added Barreto, who was a Harris campaign pollster and adviser.

“Young voters, especially in every racial and ethnic group, have become more Republican compared to 2020 — this was not driven by any particular racial group, but all young voters have changed from 2020,” he added he.

A shift of all groups to the GOP

Henry Fernandez, CEO of the African American Research Collaborative, said that “this election was not about one group moving to the Republican Party, but a shift of virtually every group to the GOP by relatively small but consistent margins across much of cause of cost of living concerns.”

“While black voters voted the majority for Harris and white voters the majority for Trump, this shift to the GOP occurred in nearly all groups, even those, like younger voters, that the Democratic Party has relied on for success his future,” Fernandez said.

He added that “this weakening of support for Democrats has come even as key issues supported by Democrats have done extremely well, both in ballot initiatives across the country and in our poll.”

Among all Latino voters, more than 6 in 10 said they voted for Harris, compared with just over a third who chose Trump.

Meanwhile, more than half of Latino voters felt Democrats would do a better job of addressing the issue most important to them, compared with about a third who thought Republicans would.

Inflation, health cited

Across all racial and ethnic groups of voters surveyed, inflation, health care costs and jobs, and the economy emerged as the most important issues.

Abortion and reproductive rights also emerged as a top issue for voters across all groups, followed by housing costs and affordability and immigration reform for immigrants already in the United States.

About three-quarters of voters across racial and ethnic groups supported a federal law that would “guarantee access to abortion and give women control over their own private medical decisions.”

Majorities of black, Latino, Native American and Asian-American voters also expressed concern about Project 2025 — a broad conservative agenda from the Heritage Foundation.

Trump has tried to distance himself from the platform, although some former members of his administration helped draft it.
