FAIRBURN, Georgia (WANF/Gray News ) – A police K-9 was killed in a shootout near Atlanta that also left the suspect dead and a deputy injured.

The shooting happened Wednesday night after a multi-county car chase through metro Atlanta, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the suspect as Jason Andre Wilson, 23, of Atlanta.

During the shootout, officials said Wilson shot a K-9 and a deputy. The K-9 was killed and the deputy was injured.

Officials said the situation began around 11 p.m. when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on the highway and the driver failed to stop, leading to a pursuit.

Wilson reached speeds of 110 mph, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy stopped Wilson’s car using a PIT maneuver and released K-9 Titan to apprehend Wilson.

Wilson opened fire on Coweta County deputies, Fairburn police officers and K-9 Titan using an AK pistol.

The police dog was hit multiple times and died at the scene, officials said.

A deputy was also hit multiple times, suffering multiple lacerations.

Law enforcement fired at Wilson, killing him.

The deputy who was shot was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

K-9 Titan has served the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office for over five years.

The shooting is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
