Jonesboro councilman charged with simple battery

JONESBORO, La. (KNOE) – A Jonesboro city councilman was arrested after getting into an altercation with a city employee on Wednesday, November 14th.

Devin Flowers, 53, was charged with two counts of simple battery.

Jonesboro Mayor J. Spike Harris released the following statement:

“The Mayor’s Office confirms that City Councilor Devin Flowers has been arrested on two counts of simple assault against a city employee. As Mayor of Jonesboro, I want to reaffirm this administration’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for all employees. Harassment, intimidation or any form of physical harm directed at our employees is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Public servants are entrusted to serve the community with integrity and professionalism, and any actions that violate that trust or endanger the safety of others are a direct affront to the principles we stand for. Mr. Flowers’ actions, including threatening employees with incarceration without probable cause, were conducted outside the scope of his duties as counsel and are deeply troubling.

We remind all members of the public that no one is above the law and accountability is essential to maintaining trust in our community. This administration remains committed to promoting an environment of respect, fairness and due process. We will continue to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities as this matter is dealt with through the legal system.”

According to the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Flowers’ bone is set for $20,000.

This is a developing story.
