Police said 16 passengers suffered minor injuries in the crash

Students involved in a “troublemaker” bus accident with a truck in Leicestershire will be offered support when they return to classes, the school trust said.

The bus was traveling from St Paul’s Catholic School in Leicester on an educational trip when the accident happened on the A46 near Syston on Thursday.

Ten students were taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering minor injuries in the collision, which happened around 9:30 GMT.

Children involved in the accident will be able to access counseling support when they return to school.

Leicestershire Police said 16 passengers suffered minor injuries in the crash, which closed the northbound dual carriageway between the A607 near Cossington and the B676.

Investigations are still ongoing, the force added.

“Effective Response”

St Thomas Aquinas Multi-Academy Trust, which runs the school, said the bus was carrying 37 pupils and two staff on its way to the Rosmini Centre.

The trust said the bus crashed into the guardrails following the impact of the collision.

Neil Lockyer, chief executive of the trust, said: “We would like to thank the emergency services and staff at the school for their prompt and effective response and support in relation to this incident.

“Incidents like this are shocking and upsetting and as a result students and staff have been able to access counseling support as they return to school over the next few days.”

National Highways said the northbound carriageway was reopened at 2pm.
