The helicopter will fly over Cass County as part of the groundwater survey

PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. (WOWT) – Residents in the Plattsmouth area may see and hear an aircraft passing overhead at low levels in the coming days, but authorities say not to be alarmed.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that a company called Aqua Geo Frameworks will fly a helicopter towing a large circle about 100-200 feet off the ground. Weather permitting, flights will begin on Friday and last for about a week.

The goal is to map groundwater in the area, with the hula-hoop-looking device serving as a sensor that measures what the sheriff’s office says are “tiny electromagnetic signals” used to collect data from below the Earth’s surface.

CCSO says residents of Plattsmouth and the surrounding area should not be concerned about the helicopter if they encounter it, and that the low-level airborne project has a pre-planned flight path.
