GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – The attempted murder trial of a Greenville attorney continues.

Travis Douglas is accused of shooting and attempting to kill JP Baum outside his law firm last April.

Prosecutors say phone records and surveillance video place Douglass at the scene. At the time of the shooting, Douglass’ friend David Smith was being sued by Baum’s law firm.

Midway through the second week of the trial, the defense began calling witnesses.

Crime scene expert Kenny Kinsey, who testified for the state during Alex Murdaugh’s double-murder trial, told the jury investigators in the case had “tunnel vision” and did not collect enough forensic evidence to rule out other suspects.

“The whole point of investigations is to open doors and make possibilities materialize, if you put your mind to it. Once those doors open and that possibility materializes, then you have to pivot and go down that alley,” Kinsey said.

The defense also called digital forensics expert James Bass, who disagreed with the state’s interpretation of cellphone data.

Bass said he reviewed raw data from multiple sources and found the data point the state uses to place Douglass at the scene has low accuracy.

Based on his interpretation of the data, Bass said he does not place Douglass’ phone at the scene of the shooting.

The defense said they plan to rest their case tomorrow. The court resumes at 9:30
