Nelly will not face charges after drug bust at Missouri casino

Rapper Nelly will not face drug charges following his August arrest at a casino in the St. Louis, a prosecutor said.

“We do not believe the facts of this case warrant the issuance of charges,” the St. Louis County District Attorney said. Louis Wesley Bell in a statement Tuesday. Bell, a Democrat, recently won election to Congress after defeating Cori Bush in a hotly contested primary.

Bell did not provide more information about why charges were not filed, but said the decision came after “a fair and impartial review of the evidence.”

Scott Rosenblum, the rapper’s attorney, said the search that led to the arrest was not warranted.

Nelly, 49, who was born Cornell Haynes II in St. Louis, was arrested around 4:45 a.m. on Aug. 7 at Hollywood Casino & Hotel in Maryland Heights while trying to collect his winnings.

A state trooper stationed at the casino told the “Country Grammar” and “Hot in Herre” singer that a search warrant was needed for people who won a certain amount of money — something Rosenblum disputed, saying Nelly she was “targeted by an overzealous person. of line officer.”

Following the search, an outstanding bench warrant from 2018 was found for operating a vehicle without proof of insurance. Using the warrant as a pretext, Nelly was arrested and searched and they found four ecstasy pills.

Officers searched for a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Rosenblum said the insurance issue has been resolved after the three-time Grammy winner provided proof that the car was covered.

“My information is that the DA’s office took a fair and impartial look at the case and decided not to proceed,” Rosenblum said.
