USC Football fined and placed on NCAA probation for coaching violations

USC football is back in hot water entering its game week with Nebraska.

The Trojans’ football program was fined $50,000 and placed on one year of probation by the NCAA on Tuesday for a violation involving “on-field and off-field training activities.” The NCAA found that USC exceeded the number of coaches allowed in 2022 and 2023.

“Eight football program analysts have engaged in on-field and off-field coaching activities in the spring of 2022, fall of 2022 and spring of 2023, resulting in the football program exceeding the allowed number of six coaches for two years of study,” the NCAA said. in its release. “As a result of the violations, the parties also agreed that head football coach Lincoln Riley violated the rules of head coach accountability.”

The NCAA loosened the personnel limits after the 2023 season, but the violations occurred before the change. The NCAA imposed additional sanctions other than a year of probation and a $50,000 fine. Riley opened his Tuesday media availability with a few comments about the situation.
