BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Several local businesses and community members in Warren County are coming together to support Guarantee Pest Control’s annual November grain drive.

The grain drive was started in 2017 as a way to give back to the community as part of Guarantee Pest Control’s mission to create a culture of care.

“We just wanted to give back to the community. We contacted Family Resource Centers and they said one thing they can’t keep in stock is cereal,” said India Blankenship, Office Manager for Guarantee Pest Control.

The event is a month-long drive where grain is collected at several locations in the area. Blankenship added that at one point last year, they collected more than 13,000 boxes.

“It’s for the backpack program. Your classmate or cousin or sibling helps. You just never know who you’re helping,” she said.

In addition to the cereal boxes, Blankenship said people have also given monetary donations in the past.

One of the collection locations to leave grain for the car is BG spillway. Co-owner Tiffany Baxter said the Spillway’s are happy to be a part of the action because it’s important to them to be able to help families in need during the holidays.

“We like to give back to the community whenever we can, and we love our kids and we love India, so that’s a bonus,” she said.

Baxter added that if you drop off a box at Spillway BG, you’re eligible to enter a gift card drawing. In addition to Spillway BG, other delivery locations include KP Customs Automotive and Guarantee Pest Control.

Another part of the drive takes place at TC Cherry Elementary, where collected boxes are laid out like dominoes.

“My favorite thing is seeing the kids on domino day get so excited,” Blankenship said. “It’s the grain they brought to give back to help, so it’s really special.”

Donations will be accepted until November 22nd.
