High potential will answer some burning questions — but not all — during its upcoming season finale.

During an exclusive interview with We weekly, Daniel Sunjatawho plays Karadec, teased how the ABC hit series ended season 1.

“There will be some questions that will be answered. There will be some itches that are scratched for the audience,” he noted. “(But like) all good television, you always leave the audience wanting a little bit more so they have something to come back to.”

High potential will ensure that viewers “have a reason to anticipate” Season 2. Despite not being renewed (yet), High potential became ABC’s most-watched series in six years after premiering in September.

“The secret sauce is Kaitlin Olson. The reason this isn’t your dad’s procedural is because of that light comic element that is sprinkled throughout each episode. Morgan and Kaitlin’s performance has so much to do with it,” Sunjata, 52, said. Us. “It’s a serious cop show and a serious procedural, but there’s this lightness and quirkiness that Kaitlin brings to Morgan. That’s what makes this show stand out from any other procedural I’ve ever seen.”

Season 1 received Us invest not only on Morgan’s journey, but Karadec’s also. According to Sunjata, a possible second season of High potential would build on that by focusing on Karadec more outside of the police station.

“I think we’ll see more of that, probably in — fingers crossed — Season 2. We’ll dig into that more. It will be a behind-the-scenes look at Karadec outside of the workplace,” the actor said. “What is his life like outside the enclosure. They’ll probably get more into that during season 2.”

While Karadec won’t be “that different” at the end of the first season, it exists another change on the screen.

“He was changed in (how) there are multiple ways to get to the right answer. It doesn’t have to be color by number. Intuition can play a role,” he said of how Karadec will come to understand Morgan. “It’s not just that Morgan can memorize a bunch of facts. She has this amazing ability to contextualize and make sense of these seemingly disparate facts, which detectives lack.”

Sunjata continued, “At the end of this first season, Karadec will be much more open about how to solve the cases. One thing Karadec and Morgan definitely have in common is that they both care deeply about justice. They both care deeply about protecting people who cannot protect themselves and writing what has been wronged. Karadec is more willing at the end of Season 1 to use different solutions to problems than he was at the beginning. That would certainly be due to Morgan’s influence.”

Starting to see High potential it was a nice change for Sunjata.

“(With) procedural television, I look at it like a sandbox. A sandbox has edges and there is a place where there is sand, and then there is a place where you are outside the sandbox. But within it, you can build infinite sandcastles,” he explained Us. “Finding freedom in the form of gender is something that has been a challenge for me. But for me as an actor, it’s the only way to keep it interesting for me. Keeping it alive means constantly trying to find new ways to (shoot scenes in the same space). … Trying to find freedom in the form of gender is something that has kept me going and keeps me excited to come to work every day.”
