Riverhead Police are investigating the theft at Star Confectionery

Riverhead police are seeking information related to a burglary at Star Confectionery on East Main Street in Riverhead between noon Monday and early Tuesday morning, according to a police news release.

Police responded to a call from the owner of Star Confectionery just before 8 a.m. reporting an attempted burglary at his business.

Officers discovered that someone had indeed made entry to the pledges. Although nothing initially appeared to have been removed, subsequent inspection by the owner determined that someone had removed “assorted US currency” from the premises, police said.

The Riverhead Detective Division investigated and determined the burglary occurred between 11 or 11:30 a.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the report.

The investigation is ongoing, police said. They are asking anyone with information to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
