A JetBlue flight from Haiti to New York was hit by gunfire on Monday. Although no injuries were reported and the flight operated normally, JetBlue said it was investigating the incident.

“On Monday, November 11, JetBlue Flight 935 from Port-au-Prince, Haiti landed safely at JFK Airport in New York. Although no problems were initially reported by the operating crew, a post-flight inspection later identified that the exterior of the aircraft had been hit by a bullet. We are actively investigating this incident in cooperation with the relevant authorities,” the airline said in a statement to USA TODAY.

JetBlue has suspended flights to and from Haiti until Dec. 2 and said it continues to monitor the situation on the ground. It instituted a change fee DISCLAIMER for passengers whose travel plans are affected.

The country has been rocked by civil unrest for months, and the US State Department has issued a “Do Not Travel” warning for US citizens considering travel to Haiti in September, which remains in effect.

Apparently it was also a Spirit Airlines flight hit by gunfire while trying to land in Port-au-Prince on Monday. That flight was diverted to the Dominican Republic and a crew member was injured in the incident. Spirit Airlines issued a modification of the tax exemption for passengers planning to travel to Haiti, as he did American Airlinesthe only other US carrier serving the country.
