The child care shortage could worsen in the Auburn area if the arrest of a local child care director stands.

Colette TenEyck, 38, of Seneca Falls, who works as the director of the Cayuga Community College Child Care Center in Auburn, was charged with three counts of falsifying business records and three counts of theft for allegedly scanned cheaper items at a Walmart checkout. on several occasions.

According to a report this week by The Citizen, the state Office of Children and Family Services is also reviewing the center’s license because of violations from an October inspection that included insufficient supervision, failure to report suspected abuse and poor hygiene practices .

The centre, licensed for up to 132 children, has previously dealt with similar licensing issues in 2022.
