Many Veterans Day activities take place at Battleship Memorial Park

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Despite the rainy weather, a dedicated crowd turned out to honor our nation’s veterans at Battleship Memorial Park on Monday.

One of the first events to honor the holiday was a flag-raising ceremony at the Vietnam Memorial.

People watched as flags representing each military branch, prisoners of war, the American flag and the Vietnamese flag were raised at full height.

As each flag rose high, each veteran’s personal stories added to the collective gratitude felt this morning.

Veterans Day festivities continued into the afternoon at Battleship Memorial Park for the Parade of Flags ceremony.

The ceremony honored our nation’s heroes among us and our nation’s veterans.

The event included music, a presentation by the winner of a Veterans Day essay contest and a keynote address from the 2024-2025 Young Woman of the Year.

Fourth graders from Mobile and Baldwin counties also participated in the Flag Parade.

And tonight, the festivities will continue with the annual Veterans Day concert from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Aircraft Pavilion at USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.
