The memorial will be dedicated to honor the victims of the Waukesha Christmas Parade

WAUKESHA, Wis. (WBAY) – Thursday marks three years since a man drove his car through a Waukesha Christmas parade, killing six people.

A ceremony honoring the victims will begin in an hour. The community will dedicate a memorial at Grede Park in Waukesha at exactly 4:39 p.m., the time the attack occurred.

Gov. Tony Evers ordered all flags in Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff Thursday to honor those who lost their lives. Many businesses and residents in our area are following the order.

Darrell Brooks drove his SUV through the city’s Christmas parade in 2021. The deadly act killed six people and injured more than 70. The memorial to be established Thursday will be a six-sided heart in honor of the six victims who lost their lives.

It is a tragedy that has left the community with emotional scars. Governor Evers says Wisconsinites will never forget the tragedy.

“This will be something to make sure we have a reminder every year around this tragedy and it affected a lot of lives in a very short period of time, not just those who died, but many, many people,” said Gov. Tony Evers. .

Evers also said the memorial represents the city’s strength, resilience and ability to deal with adversity through tragedy.
