Human remains found in freezer of East Lansing home

East Lansing police are investigating remains found in the freezer of a home last week, officials said.

Officers were called to a home in the 1500 block of Wintercrest Street near Coolidge Road between Interstate 69 and West Lake Lansing Road on Thursday for a report of a suspicious situation, the department said in a statement.

Authorities said the caller told dispatchers there was blood on the floor inside the home.

Police entered the home with the help of representatives from the property management company and saw blood on the floor, authorities said.

Officers searched the home and found a person dead inside a walk-in freezer, investigators said.

Police also said the possible remains of a second person were in the same freezer.

Detectives called the Michigan State Police and together they collected evidence at the home for examination at the state police crime lab, authorities said.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the remains or suspects should call East Lansing police. Sgt. Nicole Mitchell at (517) 319-6876 or Det. Jason Cotton at (517) 319-6842.

The discovery came more than three months after a Detroit mother was convict in connection with the fatal wounding of her young son in 2022, then placed his body in a basement freezer.
