NordVPN launches new identity theft protection tool in another expansion of its cyber security empire

With the increasing frequency of identity theft incidents worldwide, NordVPN has decided to expand its cyber security empire with a new Protection against identity theft instrument. This tool will help you protect your online identity and recover from any loss or damage.

NordProtect is currently only available to all NordVPN Prime users in the US. The vendor expects to unveil additional support and a standalone product in the first half of 2025.

NordProtect: what is it and why should you use it?

As Tomas Sinicki, managing director of NordProtect, explains, you can have all the necessary cyber security tools installed, but just one careless click can give away your identity to cybercriminals.

He said: “This is where NordProtect comes to the rescue by recovering and restoring lost identity assets.”

NordProtect is a complete identity theft protection service that includes:

Identity recovery and restoration. You can receive up to $1 million to cover identity theft recovery costs, including legal costs or lost wages. To do this, NordProtect connects you with an identity restoration case manager who will help you with everything you need to recover from identity theft.
Secure credit monitoring. NordProtect also ensures that you are notified of any suspicious credit activity while distributing an individual credit score report each month.
24/7 dark web monitoring. This feature ensures that you receive alerts if credentials, phone numbers, Social Security Numbers (SSNs), or other identity assets have been leaked.
Protection against cyber extortion. You have up to $100,000 to use to cover expert support and payments in response to cyber threats. This includes deleting or releasing your stolen information, as well as restricting access to your data or smart devices.

“Identity theft is a global problem and its frequency is increasing, which is why improving current features and adding new tools to NordProtect is an ongoing effort,” said Sinicki.

NordVPN was recently confirmed once again as TechRadar’s top VPN pick after a the new round of successful tests. Reviewers were particularly impressed by its flawless speeds and unlocking results, along with numerous improvements across platforms.

In 2024, data breaches have increased in size and frequency, with many incidents targeting consumer data. In May, the data of more than 500 million users was put up for sale online when Ticketmaster has been breached in one of the biggest incidents of the year.

Other statistics it also shows the rise in identity theft, with more than 550 million cases reported in the US in the first half of the year alone.

Today’s release expands on work begun last December with the launch cyber insurance plans for UK and US markets. In 2024, the security company also launched a global eSIM card, Sailyand NorthStellara threat exposure management solution for businesses.

NordProtect is currently only available to people in the US who subscribe to the NordVPN Prime subscription, which starts at $7.89 per month. The team expects to launch NordProtect for other markets and as a standalone product in the first half of 2025. So if you’re not based in the US, stay tuned as more support should be coming soon.
