Man wanted for carjacking charged with drug possession | News

A man wanted in connection with an October vehicle break-in was charged Sunday with drug possession after he was found at a Tamuning car wash, according to a magistrate’s complaint filed in Superior Court.

Melvin Junior Johnson Diaz, 37, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle as a second-degree felony, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance as a third-degree felony and felony theft.

On Oct. 8, police were investigating an Oct. 5 vehicle theft at Pacific Towers in Tamuning. They reviewed surveillance video and learned a man later identified as Diaz was kneeling next to a vehicle that had been broken into. When approached by a security guard, Diaz fled. The owner of the vehicle reported that a car jack, tool box, vehicle registration and ownership documents and a business license were stolen, the complaint states.

On Saturday, police were dispatched to a laundromat where Diaz was seen. They spoke to him and conducted a search in connection with the arrest. They found a small baggie of methamphetamine and a pipe with methamphetamine residue, according to the complaint.

If convicted, Diaz faces up to 16 years in prison. He was being held on $3,000 bail.
