Libya wants to hire more workers from Bangladesh: Envoy

DHAKA, Nov 10, 2024 (BSS) – Libya is willing to hire more Bangladeshi workforce, including doctors and engineers, to develop the country and has invited Bangladeshi students to join its top universities.

Libyan Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdulmutalib SM Saliman expressed the country’s interest when he called on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at his office in Tejgaon today.

Ambassador Saliman acknowledged the contribution of the Bangladeshi workforce in Libyan society, saying they have a greater role to play in the country, especially in the field of agriculture.

He acknowledged that some Bangladeshi doctors currently working in Libya are facing salary issues, but hopes to resolve the issue soon once ongoing reforms in the African country are resolved.

Chief advisor Prof. Yunus insisted that Bangladesh and Libya can work together to stop illegal migration and human trafficking.

“We do not support human trafficking. Many people suffer for it. We should work together to stop it,” he said.

The Chief Adviser urged the Ambassador to work towards increasing bilateral relations between two countries for increased trade and investment.

He also asked if Bangladesh could import oil from Libya for mutual benefit.

Ambassador Saliman emphasized the resumption of air connectivity between the two countries, requesting the cooperation of the Bangladeshi authorities for this purpose.
