The Giant Enshrouded update increases the number of players in the survival game by five times

It’s the right time to come back shroudedand many players do just that. Developer Keen Games just released the biggest update yet for its survival RPG, and the effect was dramatic. With a new mountain biome to explore, additional wildlife and monsters, a pet system, a level cap increase, and new crafting options, if you’ve been waiting for a reason to return to Embervale, this is it. Combine that with a Steam sale, and as we approach a week since the update’s release, the community response continues to grow.

shrouded takes the elements I love from best survival games – the sense of exploration, the fully customizable base building and the mysterious lore of the world – and combines them with robust action RPG struggle to create a game that is extraordinarily rewarding to explore. It doesn’t push into full Elden Ring territory, but it’s certainly enough to make the fight feel dangerous and satisfying. Additionally, you can play cooperatively with the ability to have up to 16 players in one world.

Since release, the Keen Games team has continued to build on its core gameplay with new dungeons, NPCs, enemies, and boss fights. Animal breeding, musical instruments and a lot of additional UI improvements and performance tweaks are implemented. Now, Souls of the Frozen Frontier has been released, the biggest update yet in terms of both content and scope. Besides raising the level cap to 35 and introducing extra gear, there’s a lot to explore.

That starts with the new biome, Mount Summits Albaneve. It’s a dangerous region full of many monsters you’ve never seen before, and you’ll have to deal with deep snow and ice as you navigate. A new weather system means you’ll need to be prepared for temperature changes, so wrap up warm. Back at base, there are new cats and dogs, while your resident NPCs will now continue a daily routine.

The player’s response was gradual but dramatic. It initially climbed slowly after the release of the update on Tuesday, November 5th, continued to rise through the weekend, and has now reached a 24-hour high of 33,540 concurrent users. This is five times the highest recorded in the previous month and the highest number of active players Enshrouded has had at one time since March, shortly after the game’s release.

Number of players covered - SteamDB chart showing its growth to a peak of 33,540 competitive players in November.

If you want to join them, Enshrouded is 20% off on Steam until Tuesday 19th November, meaning you’ll pay just $23.99 / £19.99 for your copy. The full release of version 1.0 is still planned to arrive in 2025. Head Here if you’re keen to discover how far it’s come since launch.
