With Arizona back in GOP fold, Trump claims all 7 swing states, beats own 2016 tally – The Week

Donald Trump has already won the election, but like a cherry on top, now the US president-elect has brought home Arizona, a key battleground state among Republicans.

With the Arizona win, Trump now has 11 more electoral votes, bringing his total in the Electoral College to 312. That’s 42 more than the midway mark of 270 votes. His Democratic rival and US Vice President Kamala Harris has 226 votes.

In 2016, when Trump won against Hillary Clinton, he collected 306 votes, making his last victory even more remarkable.

There are seven swing states, and with a victory in Arizona, Trump took them all to seal his presidency.

In addition to Arizona, swing states or battleground states include Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. In 2020, he lost all of these states except North Carolina.

Pennsylvania has 19 electoral votes, while Georgia and North Carolina each have 16, Michigan 15, Wisconsin 10, and Nevada six.

The victory in Arizona also reflects support for Trump among Hispanic voters as well as among conservatives. He campaigned on issues like border security and the economy to target the Biden administration and rival Harris.
