Police have set up checkpoints at Dhaka’s Aminbazar entrance and conducted searches on Dhaka-bound vehicles since last night (November 9), ahead of the Awami League’s ‘Noor Hossain Day’ rally.

No arrests or detentions have been reported at the checkpoint since this report was filed at 11:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, the police have maintained that the search operation is not centered around the activities of a specific political party but rather is part of a regular campaign against drugs and to prevent any unintended activities from being carried out by those entering the capital. .

“The checkpoint and search operation is being conducted as part of our regular activities. Our operations are mainly focused on fighting against drugs and illegal weapons,” said Abdullah, Inspector of Savar Model Police Station.

“This checkpoint or search operation is not being conducted keeping in mind the agenda of the Awami League,” he added, stressing that no search operation specifically targets the activities of any political party.

Visiting the checkpoint area this morning, it was seen that over a hundred policemen were on duty at the checkpoint in front of the Mofid-E-Am School.

Along with the police, members of the army were also present in the checkpoint area.

Various Dhaka-bound vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint for searches. When they were considered suspicious, the police stopped white cars and minibuses to inquire about the destinations and identities of the passengers.
