The car narrowly misses little Mesa who ran down the road

The details come after a terrifying video was shot in Mesa showing a toddler in the road before a woman rushed to save him from passing cars.

A dash cam captured the scene on Friday, Nov. 9, at a busy intersection nearby 96th Street and University Drive.

You see the boy in the middle of the road as a car narrowly misses him. The woman then pulls him to safety.

FOX 10 spoke with the boy’s father, Alex Schabel, on Nov. 10, who is grateful to the woman who saved his son.

He wasn’t home when his son went out, but he got an alert from his doorbell when the woman brought her son back home.

“I see my door wide open with a lady holding my baby and telling me I have my children running in the middle of the street,” he said.

He says he’s not proud of what happened.

“Grateful that a local resident saw them and got them out of harm’s way, for which I am incredibly grateful. I didn’t quite catch her name, but I would like to thank her in person,” said the toddler’s father. His nine-month-old baby also managed to get out of the house.

It’s a reminder, he says, to keep a close eye on your kids.

“Pay more attention to your children out there,” he said.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this incident and looking into endangerment charges against the child’s mother.
