Aizawl: Over 3 kg of heroin was seized at two separate places in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Aizawl on Saturday morning. Three people, two of whom are from Myanmar, have been arrested in this regard.
The operation was carried out jointly by the State Excise Detectives and the Zemabawk East District Joint Action Committee.
Excise department spokesman Peter Zohmingthanga said 2.6kg of heroin was seized in Zemabawk East at 3.30am from Thangmuansein (30) and Thangkhansawm (22), both residents of a village in Tiddim township in Myanmar. They were later arrested for alleged drug possession and trafficking from Myanmar.
The operation also led to the seizure of another 1.18 kg of heroin in the same neighborhood three hours later. Sowab Uddin (23), a resident of Patharkandi in Karimganj district of Assam, was arrested.
All three accused were booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at the department’s narcotics station in Aizawl and produced before a special judge (ND&PS Act). The court remanded the suspects for 14 days and sent them to the central jail.
