2 men charged with murder after attempted drug robbery

ROCK HILL, SC – Two men have been charged with murder after a man who was shot in the head during an armed robbery of an alleged drug deal died Friday, according to the Rock Hill Police Department.

The 21-year-old died last Sunday from a gunshot wound.

Christopher Boyd, 21, and Demetris Franklin, 19, were issued murder warrants. Both were previously charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Franklin was originally charged with possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. Boyd was charged Friday with the same offense.

Just after midnight Sunday, officers responded to 1195 Saluda Street near Mount Holly Road in Rock Hill in reference to a shooting.

There, officers located a man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, according to a news release. Boyd and Franklin were also at the scene in a black pickup truck and claimed the man tried to rob them in the parking lot.

However, investigators determined that Boyd and Franklin were in the parking lot to engage in a drug deal with the victim.

When the victim pulled out a gun to rob them, police said Franklin used his firearm to shoot him.
