Remembrance Day in Ottawa: Here’s what’s happening this weekend

Ahead of Remembrance Day on Monday, there are a number of ways to mark the day and those who have served Canada.

War Museum

War Museum organize an “exploration on the theme of memory”. They say visitors can play games on November 9 and 10, as well as explore paintings. On November 11, it will host a collaborative art project where people can contribute a ribbon message.

It is also holding an exhibit called “The World Remembers” in the main lobby of the Military History Research Center on Monday. The interactive touchscreen allows people to read short World War I histories of each participating nation and view more than 900 photographs of soldiers, nurses and the wounded. It also projects the names of over four million servicemen from both sides of the First World War who died between 1914 and 1922.

Memorial Day weekend events will run through Monday. The interactive exhibition at the Center for Research in Military History will take place on Monday.

The museum is open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at 1 Vimy Place, exhibits are included with admission.

Museum open

The Aviation Museum holds events to mark those who have served Canada, both past and present.

Visitors can learn the true story of two Canadian spies who help downed airmen in occupied France during World War II by cracking codes in the museum. There will also be an exhibition on how knitting was used to hide messages in times of war and peace. There will also be activities for visitors.

On Sunday, there will be a live concert by the Ottawa Collegiate Wind Ensemble “as they honor Canadian heroes with an original commemorative performance.”

The exhibit is included with admission and is in both English and French. Admission to the museum is free for Canadian military personnel and veterans. It is open from 9am to 5pm and will operate until Monday.

More information is available online.
