MMA student involved in fatal 2022 crash pleads guilty

CASTINE, Maine (WABI) – A Maine Maritime Academy student who was a passenger in accident of 2022 who killed four students in Castine pleaded guilty to a felony in court Friday.

According to American Ellsworth, prosecutors say 22-year-old Noelle Tavares bought the first five rounds of liquor the night of the crash.

Tavares pleaded guilty to furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor.

Sentencing was deferred for 2 years as part of a deferred sentence plea agreement.

The agreement prohibits the use of drugs and alcohol, among other requirements.

If he complies, the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor and he will pay a $500 fine.
