Veterans Day activities held in the region

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A number of activities are being organized on the Gulf Coast in honor of Veterans Day.

Pensacola

The city of Pensacola will hold its annual Veterans Day parade on Monday.

Festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. in downtown Pensacola.

Drivers and pedestrians are reminded to use caution in the area. Heavy parade traffic is expected throughout downtown, with road closures near the parade route.

Fairhope

The city of Fairhope is hosting a big celebration to honor veterans on Saturday.

A breakfast will be served to all veterans and parade participants at 8:30 Saturday morning in the lobby of the Fairhope Civic Center.

Then, the annual Veterans Day parade begins at 10:00 a.m. The trail will begin and end at the Fairhope Civic Center on Section Street in downtown Fairhope.

The parade will feature local veterans organizations, military vehicles, as well as the Fairhope High School Band and the Daphne High School ROTC.

Leading the parade will be Dr. Tonya Butler, Fairhope’s 2024 Veteran of the Year. Butler served as a sergeant in the US Army in the US and Korea.

Mobile

In Mobile, a full day of events is planned Monday to honor veterans.

It will all begin at 7 a.m. with a flag-raising ceremony at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

At 10 a.m., the annual Veterans Day parade will take place in downtown Mobile.

A luncheon of honor will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Fort Whiting on Broad Street.

Festivities will return to Battleship Memorial Park with the Parade of Flags celebration at 3 p.m

To end the evening, there will be a patriotic concert with the Mobile Pops, starting at 7:00 p.m.
