Phoenix double shooting suspect arrested near Tucson

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — Authorities in Arizona have one person in custody after responding to three separate scenes, including one near Tucson, related to a double shooting overnight in Phoenix.

Phoenix police responded to two people with gunshot wounds just before 2 a.m. nearby, according to a lieutenant on the scene. 27th Avenue and McDowell Road.

Police found that the man and woman were initially shot in a nearby home 51st Avenue and McDowell Road. They tried to drive themselves to the hospital, but ended up stopping near 27th Avenue to call 911.

Phoenix police said both shooting victims have non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the scene south on I-10, where Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and police officers chased him into the Marana area, which is just north of Tucson.

He was barricaded inside a vehicle with a gun, but the military arrested him around 7am

The barricade situation prompted authorities to close I-10 in both directions near Cortaro Road. The freeway was fully reopened just before 8am

Marana Police, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and DPS assisted Phoenix Police with the investigation.

Police have not yet identified the suspect.
