Nixa, Mo., teen faces misdemeanor charge after Apple AirTag prompts police to steal political sign

NIXA, Mo. (KY3) – A Nixa teenager faces a misdemeanor charge after an Apple AirTag led police to a stolen political sign.

Jackson Jester faces a misdemeanor charge of receiving stolen property in the case.

Investigators say a family in Springfield’s Rountree neighborhood is tired of having their political signs stolen. The family put an Apple AirTag on one of the signs and signed their address. The air tag led them to the Jester’s house and a Kia in the driveway.

Investigators say Jackson and his friends watched a TikTok video of someone filling their house with political signs and “thought it would be fun.” Investigators say Jester admitted to driving the car during the robberies with his friends.

Officers confiscated all signs. Stealing an election sign is a misdemeanor. You can face up to a year in jail, a $2,500 fine, or both if convicted.
