Abortion access will be enshrined in Arizona law after voters pass Prop 139

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — Now that it’s state constitutional law, what happens next is pretty straightforward for Proposition 139 and access to abortion.

Although it was approved by votersit still has to go through the state’s canvassing process, as do all other proposals and results in the race.

Once that process is complete, it will be sent to the Secretary of State’s Office, which will hold another canvas until Nov. 25, when the governor will officially certify the results.

But with voter approval, no one and nothing will stop access to abortion in Arizona.

ACLU Arizona Victoria Lopez said it was normal for any legal action to follow such a proposal.

“There are over 40 restrictions in our laws that affect access to abortion, and so whether through legislative action or litigation or other types of advocacy at the executive or regulatory level, we’re going to have to evaluate each one. restrictions and laws and see if they comply with our restrictions and laws and see if they comply or violate the new state constitutional amendment,” Lopez said.

She now pointed out that it is constitutional law, it is everyone’s right to know that they have access to an abortion under Prop 139.
