Man indicted for trying to kill ex-wife in Surprise

PHOENIX — A man has been charged with allegedly trying to kill his ex-wife in Surprise, the Maricopa County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Garrett Headrick, 26, was indicted by a grand jury on Oct. 25 for attempted second-degree murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct, MCAO said.

Headrick assaulted taylor headrick in a house almost Greenway and Dysart roads on Oct. 19, according to the Surprise Police Department.

Police received a call from a neighbor around 7:30 a.m. who saw a man allegedly dragging a woman by her hair into a nearby home, according to authorities.

Supposedly Headrick he slapped and choked his ex-wife repeatedly and also tried to stab her in front of their children.

Surprise officers said they knocked on the front door and heard a woman screaming for help inside the home. Officers forced their way into the home and found Headrick standing over his ex-wife as he assaulted her.

Officers fired”more less lethal bean bag rounds.” The police also found several knives on the floor next to the woman.

She suffered multiple injuries from the assault, including cuts and bruises, was taken to hospital and is now in a stable condition.

Authorities said Headrick had traveled from California and waited outside her home before the attack.

What were the charges against the man who allegedly tried to kill his ex-wife in Surprise?

A grand jury indicted Headrick on the following charges:

  • A case of attempted second degree murder, a class two dangerous felony
  • Four counts of kidnapping, a class two felony
  • Three counts of aggravated assault, a class three dangerous felony
  • One charge of disorderly conduct, a class I felony

Headrick is in jail on $500,000 cash-only bail.
