4-year-old boy and stepfather drown while swimming in lake, officials say

LAKE CORPUS CHRISTI, TX. (CHRIS) – Texas officials say a 4-year-old boy and his stepfather have died after they went missing after a swimming accident over the weekend.

CHRIS reports that the incident happened on Sunday at Lake Corpus Christi.

According to state police, several people were swimming at Catfish Cove when five people started fighting.

Three people were pulled to safety and sent to hospital, but a 29-year-old man and a 4-year-old boy never resurfaced.

On Monday, the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office announced the first drowning victim, 29-year-old Pedro Aguirre.

Officials said he is from the Mathis area.

Catfish Cove remained closed while search and rescue efforts continued for the 4-year-old boy.

San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera posted on social media on Tuesday, saying the child was pulled from the water.

CHRIS reported that the 4-year-old, identified as Gabriel Gonzalez, was the stepson of Pedro Aguirre.
