One person dies after fire destroys an outbuilding in Cornelius

CORNELIUS Hours. (KPTV) – One person was pronounced dead after being rescued from a fire in Cornelius Wednesday night, according to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.

Around 7 p.m., crews responded to the 300 block of South Alpine Street after a report of a structure fire. Firefighters found a small, detached building on fire and were told a person was sleeping inside.

Once crews were able to knock down the flames and search the structure, they found the person. However, firefighters determined the person died in the fire and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire investigators from Forest Grove Fire & Rescue and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are working to determine what caused the fire.

According to firefighters, the structure did not have working smoke alarms.
