WCSD is releasing new details about the incident that prompted the school lockdown

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) – The Washoe County School District is releasing new information about the incident that caused a lockdown at two area schools Wednesday.

On Nov. 6, staff at Robert Mitchell Elementary School contacted school police to report a disturbance or potential fight near the school campus that may involve high school students. They reported that one person appeared to be injured and his clothes were missing.

Minutes later, while school police were responding to that area, another report was received from Sparks High School staff of a student armed with a pocket knife on campus. Because of both reports, Sparks High School and Robert Mitchell Elementary School were placed on lockdown.

Police and school staff detained a suspicious student. The school district says those involved in the incident have been identified and the pocket knives have been recovered.

One person was treated for minor injuries, but no other injuries were reported.

Another person was arrested for school disturbance and one charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with further criminal charges pending.

School police say this was an isolated incident between private parties and there is no indication of gang involvement.
