AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – A 39-year-old man was arrested following a drive-by shooting Thursday afternoon in Akron

Officers responded to the area of ​​East Market and South Arlington Street around 4:15 p.m. for a shooting.

When police arrived, they found a 78-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to nearby Summa Health Akron Municipal Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Based on initial information, a minor accident involving two vehicles has occurred on East Market Street. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the victim’s vehicle sideswiped the other vehicle involved, causing minor damage. Following the collision, the driver of the other car, a 39-year-old man, fired several shots, hitting the victim once. After the shooting, the suspect left the scene.

Minutes later, officers were told the shooter was at a residence in the 700 block of Ravenswood Avenue. Officers responded to that location and took the suspect into custody without incident. He was then taken to the police station for questioning.

The suspect was identified as Jon Jenkins, who was charged with felonious assault and transported to the Summit County Jail where he was booked.

At least one gun was recovered.
