2 charged in connection with shooting at Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — A man and a teenager have been charged in connection with a high profile footage that’s what happened inside the Arizona Mills food court in Tempe earlier this year.

The Maricopa County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Thursday that Xavier Padilla, 17, and Gabriel Garcia, 19, have been indicted by a grand jury in connection with the September shooting.

Both face multiple counts of aggravated assault and endangerment, in addition to a charge of disorderly conduct and unlawful discharge of a weapon, which are also classified as dangerous felonies.

While Padilla is charged as an adult, he also faces an additional felony charge of being a minor with a gun.

The Arizona family first reported that the scare among mall-goers stemmed from an argument between the shooters and the victims and that Padilla allegedly admitted to the shooting.

The trial is scheduled for March 2025, prosecutors said.

Padilla and Garcia were of three people arrested at the end of last month. A third person, 22-year-old Marvin Hooks, was charged with conspiracy in connection with the murder but was not charged.
