FORT WORTH, Texas (KAUZ) – The fourth day of the Anthony Patterson trial continues at the Tim Curry Criminal Justice Center in Fort Worth on Thursday, November 7th.

The Wichita County investigator takes the stand

Chief Investigator Tye Davis of the Wichita County District Attorney’s Office was the first witness called to testify this morning. He shared with the courtroom his experience with cases involving human trafficking.

Davis said that when he became involved with Jandreani Bell, he said he was told that a previous phone call was found between an inmate and Bell discussing human trafficking activities. During the call, Bell said to “get in touch with Anthony.”

Davis said that later in the process, when they were able to get a last name for “Anthony” used during the initial investigation, they showed the victim some photos to help identify “Anthony.”

Chief Davis said none of the victims chose Anthony Patterson’s photo in the lineup. Davis shared with the courtroom that the older victim became very surprised when she was shown Pattersonn’s photo. He said she was “circling it with her finger but then pointed at another man”.

After a morning recess, a new witness was called to the stand. US Secret Service agent Michael Allen was asked to describe the process of extracting information from cell phones that are used by criminals or involved in crimes.

He said a warrant phone was brought to the courtroom for the case, but since he doesn’t go through the files, just makes them available, he wouldn’t have information about the contents.

Chief Investigator Tye Davis was called to the stand to discuss an operation in which Bell was wired and sent to knock on Patterson’s door.

Although Patterson did not answer the door, he told the courtroom he was handed a file with a document inside. Chief Davis said he believed the document was relevant to the investigation.

As the State went to present, the defense objected, but the objection was overruled.

Chief Davis said the document was in the same condition as when he received it.

The letter read the following:

“I know a client of mine has a lot of candy left over from Halloween, so I thought it would be a good thing to bring them over and let them enjoy some candy because I know they don’t have received this type of treatment at home. They are like my little girls and I have always taken care of them. So while I was there I showed them around the house and they had never seen a tub this big before. He had all the Jets in him. They wanted to get into it, so I let them. I think Justina thought it would be a good experience considering where I come from. After that, they sat in the living room eating candy, and he and I had a massage (no sexual intercourse). Now, whether or not they came into the room to follow us, I don’t know. I had the impression that the door was locked. But there was absolutely no intention on my part of anything like what I’m accused of.”

DPS special agent takes the stand

The next witness called to the stand was Jacob Weaver, a special agent with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Weaver said through the investigation, tax records were used to identify the home where the victims were taken as belonging to Anthony Patterson.

Special Agent Weaver says after the sting operation with Bell did not go as planned, on January 29, 2021, a search warrant and an arrest warrant were obtained.

Several electronic devices were seized during Patterson’s initial arrest.

The defense team objected to a request to have the video of an interview with Anthony Patterson played in court.

The objection was overruled and the video, which shows an interview Weaver had with Patterson moments after he was arrested, was played in the courtroom.

In the video, Patterson said he was blackmailed by Bell, citing that she knew about a suspicion he had. Weaver asked Patterson in the video if he knew why an 8- or 10-year-old girl would say she was at his house, to which Patterson said no.

During the interview, Patterson went on to say that the girls were in the other room while he was getting a massage, and Bell had only brought them because she had a lot of Halloween candy left over.

Weaver asked Patterson if the girls were in the room while he was getting a massage, Patterson denied, saying they were only in the living room.
