A Denver police officer has been arrested for filing a false car theft report

A The Denver Police Department officer was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly filed a false police report about her car being stolen and a false insurance claim following a hit-and-run accident in 2022, agency officials said in a news release.

Officer Zurisadai Beltran was arrested on suspicion of attempting to influence a public official and insurance fraud after someone tipped off National Bureau of Criminal Investigation claiming she filed a false car theft report after an acquaintance was involved in an accident while driving her vehicle on April 16, 2022.

Beltran, 24, was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. After she submitted an insurance claim, a payment was sent to her auto loan company, according to Denver police.

The crash occurred before Beltran was hired as a DPD officer in 2023, and the agency has since fired her, police officials said in a news release Thursday.

She is being held at the Downtown Detention Center, according to jail records.
