NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL. (WSVN) – A former Miami-Dade County public official has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography.

The Miami Police Department’s Special Victims Unit arrested North Miami Beach Deputy City Manager David Scott on Wednesday.

According to the investigators, a search was carried out at the home of the 61-year-old man. Detectives seized electronic devices, including Scott’s cell phone, that contained child pornography.

Scott allegedly uploaded 31 images and videos and attempted to purchase an additional 6,000 videos and images.

Scott has since been fired. North Miami Beach released a statement following Scott’s termination.

“After receiving and reviewing the arrest report from the Miami Police Department, City Manager Mario Diaz has terminated David Scott’s employment.”

Miami-Dade County State’s Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle also issued a statement.

“I am shocked and disappointed to learn that a senior government official has been charged with possession of child pornography. As State’s Attorney, I know that our law enforcement community and my prosecutors are committed to ensuring that no child suffers the humiliation, exploitation, and abuse at the center of any child pornography arrest. Child pornography is always a crime centered on exploiting the innocence of our children.”

Scott faces 15 counts of possessing sexual performance of a child.
