A federal judge has sentenced a convicted felon from Jasper to more than 21 years in prison for drug trafficking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas, U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs announced.

Larry Buckley, 44, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone sentenced Buckley to 262 months in federal prison on Wednesday.

According to information presented in court, in October 2022, a joint investigation between federal, state and local law enforcement began, identifying Buckley as a source of supply for a drug trafficking organization distributing large amounts of methamphetamine in the Jasper and Lufkin areas , as well as Sabine Parish, Louisiana area. During the investigation, it was determined that Buckley had supplied numerous individuals with large amounts of methamphetamine. Law enforcement was able to purchase methamphetamine and firearms directly from Buckley. Buckley has previous convictions for various felonies, including engaging in organized criminal activity, manufacturing delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and burglary of a habitation. As a convicted felon, Buckley is prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.

This case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s efforts to reduce violent crime. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective in reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime issues in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with local prevention and reentry programs for sustainable crime reduction.
