Rams safety Kamren Kinchens named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9

Rams rookie safety Kamren Kinchens named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9, the league announced Wednesday.

He caught two interceptions in the fourth quarter in the red zone against the Seahawks and returned his first career interception 103 yards for a touchdown. That score was the longest defensive touchdown in franchise history and gave the Rams a 20–13 lead, helping them to a 26–20 overtime victory at Seattle. Kinchens finished the games with two interceptions and three solo tackles while playing 51.4 percent of the Rams’ defensive snaps.

Kinchens went for 128.3 yards on his sixth punt, according to Next Gen Stats, which is the most for a touchdown this season. After playing a low-key role in the previous weeks, Kinchens seized his opportunity against Seattle.

This is Kinchens first career NFL weekly honor of any kind. Earlier, Rams cornerback Cobie Durant also won NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 7, while outside linebacker Jared Verse won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for September.
