Trump makes unsupported claim about ‘massive deception’ in Philadelphia

This article will be available in Spanish ro El Tiempo Latino.

Late in the afternoon on Election Day, former President Donald Trump posted an unsubstantiated claim on social media about “massive fraud” in Philadelphia, which he claimed drew the attention of law enforcement.

The Philadelphia Police Department, the Philadelphia District Attorney, a Republican city commissioner and the Pennsylvania State Department denied the claim.

“There is a lot of talk about massive CHEATING in Philadelphia. The law enforcement officers are coming!!!” trump card POSTED on Truth Social at 4:39 PM on Election Day.

We reached out to the Trump campaign for information about where the alleged cheating took place and what law enforcement responded, but have not heard back.

Philadelphia Police Department CNN said was not aware of any election-related issues that prompted a law enforcement response.

Responding to Trump’s post, Philadelphia City Commissioner Seth Bluesteina republican, POSTED on X, “There is absolutely no truth to this allegation.”

“It’s yet another example of misinformation,” wrote Bluestein, who is also a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center Elections Task Force. “Voting in Philadelphia was safe.”

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, too WEIGHING by X, calling Trump’s claim “baseless.”

“The only talk of massive cheating came from one of the candidates, Donald J. Trump,” Krasner wrote. “There is no factual basis within law enforcement to support this wild allegation. I invited complaints and accusations of impropriety all day long. If Donald J. Trump has facts to back up his wild accusations, we want them now. Right now. We’re not holding our breath.”

Asked for comment on Trump’s post, the press office of the Pennsylvania Department of State — which oversees state elections — sent us this statement: “Pennsylvania counties, including Philadelphia, are holding safe and secure elections.”

Trump has also made unsubstantiated claims about Philadelphia. In September, Trump cited dubious The results of a survey commissioned by a conservative group as the basis for its claim of voter fraud among mail-in voters in Pennsylvania.

We’ll update this story if Trump or his campaign provide details to support the claim.
