A Brazos County District Court jury takes seven minutes to find a Bryan man guilty of shooting and wounding a Bryan police officer in December 2022.

It then takes the jury less than an hour to reach a life sentence.

Joshua Herrin, 46, was convicted of aggravated assault on a public servant when he fired at the officer while fleeing a traffic stop in the area of Wayside Drive and Avondale Avenue.

The officer did not return fire.

Herrin drove off in the officer’s patrol car, then abandoned it.

The next day, Herrin shot and wounded a Brazos County sheriff’s deputy in the Benchley area. Herrin, who was captured following the standoff, faces a lawsuit in Robertson County related to that incident. That case will be prosecuted by the Brazos County Prosecutor’s Office.

Herrin remains in the Brazos County Jail as of Nov. 5 in lieu of bonds totaling $5.7 million.
