Most of these storms will likely form into a line overnight, but conditions may allow supercells to emerge ahead of the line. According to the FOX Forecast Center, this could lead to tornadoes, some possibly strong, along with damaging winds.

The severe weather threat should diminish by early Tuesday as the storm system moves out of the area.

As the large weather system continues its eastward track, it’s also bringing another round of torrential rain to the central US. This will create a wide corridor of moisture that stretches from Texas to Michigan.

The Ozarks region, in particular, could experience even higher precipitation totals due to land improvement effects. As the storm system moves north, it will gradually weaken, but is still expected to deliver rain to areas as far north as Wisconsin and Michigan.

Given the recent significant rainfall in parts of the west Arkansas and in southern Missouri, repeated heavy rains could increase the risk of flooding in these areas.

Flash flooding occurred Monday in east-central and southeast Missouri, according to the National Weather Service office in St. Louis. A flash flood warning was in effect until Monday night for parts of Jefferson, Washington, Madison, Sainte Genevieve and Saint Francois counties.

While Monday night’s rainfall totals are expected to be lower than the weekend, additional heavy rain in the same regions could exacerbate flooding concerns.

In the county of St. Francois, Missouriofficials issued voluntary evacuations for Iron Mountain Lake due to the possibility of a levee failing near the city. The fire protection district posted photos of flooding. In one image, a truck is seen trying to drive through high flood waters.
