Charges filed in deadly crash in Monroe County

VILLAGE OF OAKDALE, Wis. (WEAU) – Charges have been filed following a fatal accident in the village of Oakdale Friday, November 1.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle was traveling in a construction zone on Interstate 90 near the village of Oakdale when it struck the back of a semi Friday evening. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Isaac Morales Jr., then lost control of the vehicle and struck a surface machine. The construction worker driving the surface machine, identified as 35-year-old Andrew Skupniewitz, died at the scene.

In an updated press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Morales was arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail on Nov. 2.

Morales was charged with 1st degree reckless homicide, homicide by intoxicated operation of a vehicle, knowingly operating while revoked causing both death and serious bodily injury, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, injury by intoxicated operation of a vehicle and possession of THC.

A cash bond was set at $250,000 with conditions. An initial appearance is scheduled for Dec. 16 at 9 a.m
