Horse-headed man identified as victim of fatal Beaver Dams crash, speed a factor: Sheriff

Officials have released the identity of the victim of a fatal one-car crash Saturday in Schuyler County.

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Donald E. Lincoln, 55, of Horseheads. Lincoln was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

Around 7:15 a.m. Saturday, sheriff’s deputies and units from Beaver Dams Rescue responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of State Route 414 and Rockwell Road in Beaver Dams.

Lincoln was already deceased when first responders arrived at the scene, police said.

An investigation determined Lincoln was fatally injured when the vehicle he was driving on Route 414 left the road, struck an embankment and several trees before coming to a stop, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators say the Lincoln was not wearing a seat belt and believe that factor, along with unsafe speed, contributed to the fatal crash.
