Chicago Severe Weather: Heavy rain, strong winds expected Monday, Election Day 2024, severe threat low in area

CHICAGO (WLS) — There is an AccuWeather alert Monday evening for the threat of heavy rain and strong winds. There is also a very low threat of severe thunderstorms.

There is a break in precipitation for most of the area through midday Monday. There are still gusty winds and mild temperatures, ABC7 Chicago meteorologist Larry Mowry said.

There is a chance for heavy rain Monday night with some thunderstorms and winds over 45 mph. There is a slight chance of severe thunderstorms, with wind as the main threat.

The extreme south-west suburbs are at a level 1 risk of severe weather.

Heavy rain after 6:00 PM, heaviest rain likely between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM

1 to 2 inches of rain is possible for part of the area. Higher totals are also possible.

More heavy rain is possible Tuesday between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Showers are possible inland with mild temperatures on Tuesday, Election Day.

There is a low chance of a severe thunderstorm on Tuesday with strong winds and a brief tornado possible.

Most of the rain will leave the area by Tuesday at 19:00.
