Inmate killed at Skippack State Prison by another inmate Friday morning, authorities say

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections confirmed Monday afternoon that Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the homicide of another inmate at SCI Phoenix in Skippack Township on Friday, a day after he was booked into the prison.

Shaun Harden, 45, was found unresponsive in his cell, according to Joseph Terra, superintendent of the Phoenix State Correctional Facility.

Strengthen serving a sentence of 4 to 10 years for aggravated indecent assault on a child on a conviction in Greene County, Terra said. He arrived at SCI Phoenix on Thursday.

It is the second death at the state prison this year. Dwight Williams, authorities allege, trampled Ashokkumar Guru to death in August.

Jail staff responded immediately and performed life-saving measures until facility medical personnel arrived. Harden was pronounced dead at 6:29 a.m., authorities said.

Per policy, the Pennsylvania State Police has been notified and will conduct an investigation. The official cause of death will be determined by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Next of kin of the deceased have been notified, authorities said.

As of 3 p.m. Monday, no information on charges or a defendant had been released.
