Homicide investigation underway after SE DC shooting leaves 1 dead, another injured

A shooting in Southeast D.C. left one man dead and another injured late Sunday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Shortly after 10 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Southeast Savannah Terrace for the sound of gunshots, according to an MPD spokesman.

Officers found a man conscious and breathing and took him to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Minutes later, police said a second man was found unconscious and not breathing in the 3300 block of 22nd Street Southeast.

The second victim was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.

Authorities initially said the second victim’s wound was believed to be a stabbing, but detectives determined the victim suffered a gunshot wound and both men were injured during the Savannah Terrace shooting.

As of Monday morning, MPD did not have a suspect supervisor, but said the homicide is under investigation.
